Good indoor environmental quality requires properly focused lighting at the right level and quality. One lighting strategy that green buildings incorporate is daylighting, which refers to intentionally allowing natural light into a space through windows, skylights, or other transparent or translucent openings. Proper daylighting designs rely primarily on indirect and diffused light rather than direct sunlight, and they often include a shading system to prevent glare and unwanted heat gain. Use of natural daylight can help reduce the need for electric lighting, thus reducing energy use. In addition to admitting daylight, windows that let people focus their eyes across a longer distance and see the outdoors may also play a role in occupants' comfort.

- Devices to reflect daylight into an indoor space

- Lighting controls with daylight sensors
