In order to appropriately integrate the buildings and grounds into the local ecosystem, the project team must first get to know a site’s features and its challenges. Does the site contain invasive species that need to be remediated? At?risk species that need to be protected? Does stormwater pool in specific areas of the site? Knowing all of this information is essential to good site design.
为使建筑及场地合理融入当地生态系统，项目团队必须首先了解场地特征与潜在问题。场地内是否存在需要治理的入侵物种？是否有需要保护的濒危物种？雨水是否会在场地特定区域汇集？掌握以上全部信息，是开展优质场地设计的基础。

Green buildings have sustainable sites that reduce environmental impacts, minimize site disturbance, and plan to contribute to the restoration and regeneration of the area. Sustainable site design begins with a thorough investigation or survey of the site. During early project planning (discovery), teams conduct a site assessment, which examines environmental characteristics that can influence the design of a sustainable site and building.
