In addition to the number of other buildings in an area, it’s also important to consider the types of these buildings and existing infrastructure. High?density development alone does not guarantee a desirable location. For example, a cluster of high?rise apartment buildings with no other building types nearby would still require residents to travel for basic amenities like medical care, school, and job opportunities. Depending on the method, this travel may have negative environmental impacts. In the context of a project, these essential amenities are known as nearby uses.
除区域内建筑数量外,建筑类型与现有基础设施同样需要重点考量。仅依靠高密度开发,并不能保证区位优质。例如,一片仅有高层住宅、无其他配套建筑的区域,居民仍需外出获取医疗、教育、就业等基础服务。根据出行方式不同,此类通勤可能产生负面环境影响。在项目范畴内,这类基础配套服务被称为周边配套功能

Green building strategies consider the efficiency of potential locations. Location efficiency refers to the effect of a facility’s location on travel behavior and related impacts. If people can have many of their needs met in a small geographic area, it reduces the amount of travel required. Therefore, green buildings seek out locations in mixed?use areas, those with a variety of publicly available buildings and space types that serve many different needs.
绿色建筑策略需考量备选场地的区位效能。区位效能指建筑场地位置对出行行为及其相关环境影响的作用。若人们可在小范围内满足多数生活需求,就能减少出行距离。因此绿色建筑优先选址于混合功能区,即拥有多种公共建筑与空间类型、可满足多元需求的区域。
An efficient location:
高效区位具备以下特点:
? Enables people to safely walk, wheel, and bike — activities that can improve people’s health, save them money, and reduce pollution by reducing the number of cars on the road.
  • 支持安全步行、轮椅出行与骑行,既能改善居民健康、节约出行成本,也可通过减少上路车辆降低污染。
    ? Supports local businesses and creates opportunities for social and cultural interactions.
  • 扶持本地商业发展,创造社会与文化交流机会。
Offices, shops, government buildings, and multifamily housing tend to be a good fit for mixed?use development. Other project types, such as warehouses and distribution centers, may need to be in places with less efficient locations. But project teams can still seek locations that support reduced fuel use and the associated pollution.
